IonQ

IonQ

IonQ is setting out to build a fully operational quantum computing platform and software package based on research performed at both Duke University and University of Maryland. The promise of quantum computers lays in their ability to execute chemical simulations, machine learning, and optimization algorithms in a manner and speed that eclipses the total combined computing power of modern traditional computers. IonQ was incubated in stealth by NEA and its scientific cofounders, Prof. Chris Monroe (UMD) and Prof. Jungsang Kim (Duke). The professors are two of the foremost leading scientists in their field. The CEO, David Moehring, managed millions of dollars of quantum computing sponsored research for the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA). IonQ was formed in 2016 and is located in College Park, MD.
