Investment Analyst

Investment Analyst Position Description

Overview

Osage University Partners (OUP), a science and technology focused venture capital firm, is looking for an Investment Analyst to support its investment team. The analyst’s primary role will be at the heart of Osage’s investment team, providing internal analytic support to Osage’s investment and portfolio management activities. Interested candidates should have demonstrated a track record of academic excellence, strong analytic ability, excellent computer science / programming skills, and significant interest in start-ups across a broad spectrum of technologies from machine learning software to therapeutics.

The position is based in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia).

Company Description

OUP is a unique venture fund that has partnered with leading research universities to invest in their most compelling spin-outs. Over 1,000 start-ups are launched each year based upon university research, resulting in the creation of many highly successful companies. OUP has established close working partnerships with 90+ top-tier universities and research institutions, including Caltech, Columbia, Duke, Harvard, Michigan, Penn, UC San Francisco, UC Berkeley, and many others, to exercise unique investment rights that those schools hold in their start-ups.

Partner Universities assign their investment rights in all of their existing and future spin-outs to OUP in exchange for a share of the fund’s profit. This provides OUP with truly proprietary deal flow and, more importantly, unprecedented, rights-driven access to some of the most sought after, exciting, and oversubscribed venture investments funded by top-tier syndicates. As these rights do not expire if not exercised, the fund enjoys a unique ability to select which rounds should drive superior returns and participate accordingly. The portfolio to date is comprised of both late stage and early stage companies, reflecting the power of this optionality. We focus on all sectors of university-originated technology, including materials science, network security, software, electronics, energy, therapeutics, medical devices, and diagnostics. Our goal is to build a highly diversified portfolio across both sector and stage.

OUP I held its final close in January of 2011, raising its target of $100 million. OUP II held its final close in March of 2015, raising an oversubscribed $215 million. In 2018 OUP will raise its third fund. The three Managing Partners collectively have over 60 years of venture capital experience. OUP has invested in over 70 companies, with multiple successful M&A exits and ten IPOs.

Osage University Partners is part of the Osage Partners family of funds. Osage Partners has a twenty-five year history of investing in VC and private equity deals, and it has over $500 million of capital under management. It currently has two distinct investment strategies, each of which has its own staff: Osage University Partners and Osage Venture Partners, which funds early stage enterprise technology companies on the east coast.
