Osage University Partners

Osage University Partners

Osage University Partners (“OUP”) is a venture capital fund that invests in spinouts from a network of over 45 affiliated universities and research institutions.

OUP seeks to make investments by exercising the Participation Rights of University Partners, and if no formal Participation Right exists, to participate as a co-investor on behalf of the university or research institution.

Upon licensing technology to start-ups, universities and research institutions often take economic compensation in the form of licensing fees, royalties, and equity. As an equity holder, the University Partner has the contractual ability (a “Participation Right”) to maintain its pro rata ownership via participation in future financings of the company. Historically, few universities or research institutions have exercised such rights, relying instead on ongoing licensing fees and royalties as sources of economic benefit. Osage University Partners seeks to leverage this underutilized right to help the Fund’s University Partners to further participate in the success of their best start-ups and better align their interest with shareholders in these companies.

Osage University Partners invests across all sectors of university commercialization, including Information Technology, Energy, Materials, and Life Science. OUP is a passive investor that participates in top tier venture capital syndicates investing in companies at all stages of development.
